Considering Pool Safety

Are all suction inlets properly covered?
Is there a fence around the pool area?
Is the gate to the pool area lockable?
Is the gate lock out of the reach of children?
Are chlorine and other chemical dispensers non-tamperable and /or out of the reach of children and adults?
Is there an alarm on the pool gate?
Is there a surface alarm on the pool?
A surface alarm alerts if someone falls into the pool when no one else is around.
Can teaching my child to swim prevent drowning?
Not as an only line of defense! In conjunction with a child safety barrier and pool fences, knowing how to swim can help to save your child's life in an accidental drowning situation. Teach your child how to float, practice jumping into the swimming pool and immediately swimming to the side wall as well as other swimming methods to assist in survival should an accident occur.\012
Is it okay to run the filters when people are swimming?
When motors and filters are running in the swimming pool with swimmers present, the likelihood increases that someone's hair, swimsuit or pool toy could get caught and cause an accidental drowning. You can decrease this possibility by setting timers for the filter to run during the early morning or later in the evening.
